Museums in Stockholm

For a city of its size, Stockholm has an impressive number of museums and galleries.
No matter what your preferences are, you’ll probably find something to visit. In a short walk around Gamla Stan you will find a few of the themed museums such as the Nobel Museum, the Army Museum, the Royal Castle, the Post Museum and the Middle Ages Museum, among others.
Stepping outside of Gamla Stan, there is the Culture House (Kulturhuset) where there is always something happening: photography and art exhibitions, theatre and dance performances. Most of the exhibitions at Kulturhuset are free and there are also two cafes.
And that is not all, far from it. The Nordiska Museet, situated at Skansen, Stockholm’s famous park has an interesting sample of Scandinavian life and history. The so called World Museums (Ethnographic Museum, East Asian Museum, Mediterranean Museum and the Museum of World Culture) are a very good option to see more of the rest of the world while in Stockholm.
Last but not least, the National Museum and the Museum of Modern Art offer the visitor an insight into both modern and classic art. Their permanent collections present a mix of Swedish and international artists and there are always interesting temporary exhibitions.
We will have more on the summer programme for the museums in a short while.
