How to present a paper?

Most of the participants at the Congress will present a paper in a section or working group. Here are some words of advice concerning the presentation.
The first rule is: make it short! In most of the sessions you will have maximum ten minutes to your presentation, sometimes less. Make a framework.
Concentrate on a few main points: Clarify your topic and the central research questions as simple as possible, mention your choice of method(s) and data quite shortly, and sum up the most interesting findings. That’s it!
Do NOT start to read rapidly from your full paper, trying to say a maximum of words per minute. Few will remember anything.
If you use a power point presentation, be careful with the amount of text on the slides. Use a headline style!
If you want to show tables, remember that they must be possible to read and understand in, let’s say, ten seconds. Don’t overload them with information.
If you feel that you have to write down what you are going to say, remember that 6500 characters (with spaces) for most people will mean a ten minutes presentation. Be prepared to make a shorter version if your time suddenly is cut to five minutes!
